Michigan OL Patrick Omameh wearing cast on hand
TAMPA, Fla. -- Michigan starting offensive lineman Patrick Omameh is wearing a hard cast on his left hand just four days before the Outback Bowl.
A program spokesman said the cast is for precautionary reasons and Omameh, an all-Big Ten selection this year, is expected to play Tuesday against No. 11 South Carolina (10-2).
The senior left guard was spotted wearing the cast Friday night during a bowling outing at Splitsville in the Channelside district of Tampa.
Details about the injury remain unknown. Players were not available for interviews at the event, and coach Brady Hoke won't address the media again until Saturday afternoon. He said Thursday night on the Michigan Football Radio Show there were no new injuries.
The injury is believed to have occurred this week, as Omameh was not wearing the cast after practice Monday.
The senior right guard has started 41 consecutive games, second most on the team. He had his finest season this year, and was named first-team all-Big Ten by the coaches and honorable mention by the media.
Omameh's likely backup is sophomore Joey Burzynski, a former walk-on who earned a scholarship before the season. He played in seven games as a reserve this year.
