Michigan drops to No. 7 in AP Top 25, falls out of top 5 for first time this season

Michigan fell to No. 7 in The Associated Press' latest Top 25 poll on Monday, marking the first time the Wolverines have been ranked outside the top five all season. Daniel Brenner | AnnArbor.com

ANN ARBOR -- For the first time this season, Michigan isn't a top 5 team.

After dropping a 23-point decision at Michigan State on Tuesday before scoring an eight-point win over Penn State on Sunday, Michigan fell three spots in The Associated Press' latest Top 25 on Monday, dipping to No. 7. The Wolverines were No. 7 in the USA Today coaches poll as well.

Michigan entered the season as the No. 5 team in America, and has spent every week inside the top five until now.

The team has now dropped six spots after reaching No. 1 nationally on Jan. 28. Since that time, the Wolverines are 3-3.

The Wolverines (22-4, 9-4 Big Ten) will have a week off before hosting Illinois on Sunday.

Indiana remained the country's No. 1 team, followed by Miami and Gonzaga. Michigan State jumped up four spots to No. 4 after its impressive win over Michigan.

Florida, Duke, Michigan, Syracuse, Kansas and Louisville rounded out the top 10.

No. 18 Ohio State and No. 19 Wisconsin were the league's only two other representatives.
