New quarterback: Michigan picks up commitment from 2014 QB Wilton Speight
They have a new a quarterback commit.
Richmond (Va.) Collegiate School QB Wilton Speight joined the Wolverines' 2014 class Wednesday morning, according to WolverineNation. His pledge arrived just as members of the 2013 class were faxing in their national letters of intent.
Speight is the first quarterback to commit to Michigan since Warren De La Salle's Shane Morris, who pledged to the Wolverines' 2013 class in May 2011. He was drawing interest from powers such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Notre Dame, according to Rivals.
He measures 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, making him a classic fit for Michigan's new pro-style offense.
Speight is the second member of the Wolverines' 2014 class, joining linebacker Michael Ferns of St. Clairsville, Ohio. Offensive lineman Denzel Ward also had committed, but Michigan reportedly dropped him from the class.
