Sign at new CVS, building addition on west side approved by Ann Arbor's Historic District Commission
At its meeting Thursday, Ann Arbor's Historic District Commission approved plans to construct an addition to a house on the city's west side and for the new CVS on South State Street to install an informational sign near the store's front door.
At 442 Second St., the homeowners asked the commission for permission to remove a modern one-story addition and build a new 1.5 story addition on the back side of the house. The structure began as a small, 1.5 story Greek revival home around 1866 and has been added on to several times since then, according to a report from city staff.
At 209-211 S. State St., where CVS is building a store, the commission granted approval for installation of a sign near the front door, where the store will display its advertising circulars. That building was originally a two-story single-family home which was added on to over the years. Last year, the commission granted approval for the facade to be restored and the remainder of the building to be demolished, with a new building built in its place behind the restored facade. CVS is going to be one of the tenants of the new building.
City staff also recently approved the replacing of nine vinyl windows on a historic home at 1112 W. Liberty St.
