Over Memorial Day weekend, Eileen Hoekstra's children Masaki, Tomoki and Chiaki got their first summer experience with a staple of the season: the ice cream truck.

"What could be better for a kid than sitting in the shade with watermelon, lemon-lime, or cotton candy ice pops dripping down their chins?," Hoekstra wrote in an e-mail note she sent with the photos. Hoekstra and her children live in the Lawton neighborhood.
