Late last month, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation held its annual meeting and celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Youth Council, as well as the success of its Fund the Future program.

Recently, the group posted photos from the event on Flickr. Click here to see the slideshow.

According to Sue Upton from the community foundation:

"Over the last 20 years, hundreds of high school students have served on the Community Foundation’s Youth Council - awarding nearly $1.5 million in grants to programs that benefit youth throughout our region. A number of Youth Council Alumni shared reflections on how that experience has made a huge difference in their lives. Paul Johnson (Youth Council 1992-95), now the Program Director at Peace Neighborhood Center, shared “Programs like Youth Council make sure kids grow up to be adults like me. At some point in their lives, everyone gets a call to service. What’s important is how you answer that call and what you do to make a difference in someone else’s life”. A fun video produced by Youth Council members captured images of the last 20 years. In celebrating Fund the Future, AAACF extended a special thank you to Jamie Buhr whose extraordinary commitment of time and leadership helped ensure the initiative’s overwhelming success. Over the last six years, the Community Foundation received more than $37 million in current gifts, pledges, and future legacy gifts - all of which has more than doubled the Community Foundation’s competitive grant capacity and ensures AAACF’s endowment will continue to grow."

Upton is the communications coordinator for the foundation.
