No longer homeless, blog will cease; back surgery set for Thursday
Hello everyone. This is going to be my last posting here on AnnArbor.com. When I was first approached and asked to write about my story and my situation about being homeless, I was a little reluctant at first because of any negative feedback I might get.
So after a little contemplating of how I could go about doing this, I decided to go forward. For the past six months I have had a very long, challenging and difficult road. But, as I said in my last post, I have finally found an apartment.
So I can now officially say that I am no longer homeless, so writing about being homeless is going to be a null and void subject. Maybe once I am recovered from my impending back surgery, I'll consider blogging again.
As I did in my last post, I want to thank a couple agencies for their support and help in getting me into my apartment, along with the team that I will be working with in regards to my back surgery.
The first is Friends In Deed in Ypsilanti. They have helped me in a couple ways. A couple months ago they helped me save my storage unit. Then just last week, although I thought I would not be able to receive any more help, I put a request in for some furniture. Last week, thanks to Two Men and a Truck, I took delivery of a couch, kitchen table, mattress and armoire. That helped me out big time. So to Friends In Deed, A BIG THANK YOU.
The other agency I have to thank is the Washtenaw Intergenerational Supportive Housing (WISH) project at the Michigan Ability Partners, and to Terri and her team there. Not only have they been supportive throughout my homelessness, but also since I have been in my apartment, Terri has assisted me with transportation a few times to help me get my stuff out of storage and to go to Recycle Ann Arbor's ReUse Center to get some basic stuff for my apartment. So to Terri and the team, A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU.
So finally in regard, to my surgery, I thought it would never happen. What I mean is that the date has been moved around five times and it is officially set — no changes, no cancellations, no excuses — for Thursday. So instead of worrying about being homeless, I now have to concentrate on my recovery from my surgery. It is just going to be as hard of a road, but I will make it.
So finally thank you for letting me open up to you. Take care, enjoy life and GO BLUE!!!
