On my way to town, November 2009
I walked over the newly deconstructed East Stadium bridge over State Street today on my way to work. Here's a short set of video clips of that journey, with notes taken along the way of events happening in town.
(0:00) The view from the East Stadium Bridge shows the new Al Glick Field House and the University of Michigan football practice fields.
(0:15) The condition of the sidewalk over the East Stadium bridges is appalling, with exposed steel and rough surfaces.
(0:30) An End Road Work sign blocks the sidewalk in front of the University of Michigan commuter parking lots.
I rode a University of Michigan bus into town, not pictured.
Hill Auditorium is beautiful in the morning. Patti LuPone comes to Hill Auditorium on Nov. 20 to perform her career retrospective, “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda.” The University of Michigan Men's Glee Club 150th Annual Fall Concert is Nov. 21.
(0:54) A Palmer Commons Glass House Cafe advertisement is chalked onto the sidewalk in durable sidewalk chalk in front of Hill Auditorium.
(0:56) Oak trees planted 2004 in memory of J. Paul Raeder, a member of the Michigan football team from 1957 to 1961. He was the leader of "Raeder's Raiders", a bunch of bench warmers who played as a third unit in a "wild, hell-bent style" profiled in John U. Bacon's story on Michigan Radio on Nov. 6.
(1:00) Newspaper boxes no longer serviced in front of Silvio's Organic Pizza on North University direct you to Frank's Restaurant on Maynard.
Frank's is closed today for a movie shoot.
(1:15) Donate blood at St Mary's Student Parish as part of the Michigan - Ohio State annual blood battle blood drive.
(1:30) 259 parking spaces were available at 9 a.m. at the Maynard Street structure. Check the number of available parking spaces on the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority web site.
New (i) information signs are still blank.
Encore Recordings stocks Ghostly titles.
(1:40) The Encore Recordings store display is a Superman theme, which includes titles like the Six Million Dollar Man book and record set from 1976. Arbor Update editor Julie Weatherbee notes this Dilbert strip: "Go buy a vinyl record, Grandpa".
(1:50) High lift in front of building.
