Stadium Boulevard closed near Crisler Arena due to water main break

Glaucoma patients who take medication less likely to die, University of Michigan researcher finds

When eye doctors identify patients with a suspected case of glaucoma, they often choose to keep a close watch on the patients, rather than treating them with one of several medications available.

That’s because numerous side effects can accompany use of these drugs, including potential breathing and kidney function problems.

But according to University of Michigan research, when both glaucoma or suspected glaucoma patients take medications for the eye disorder, they have a significantly decreased risk of dying than patients who didn't take medication.

Ypsilanti woman killed, two men injured in I-94 accident

A 35-year-old Ypsilanti woman was killed and two men suffered minor injuries during an accident this morning involving three vehicles on eastbound I-94 near Michigan Avenue.

The woman died at the scene of the 9 a.m. crash. Her name has not been released.

Today's snowstorm is leading to cancellations of after-school activities and events across Washtenaw County.

Ann Arbor Public Schools have canceled all after-school and evening activities because of the storm, said spokeswoman Liz Margolis.

Pittsfield Township police seek victims of car break-ins

Pittsfield Township police arrested an individual last week believed to be responsible for a series of overnight auto break-ins.

Officials are now asking anyone missing items from their vehicles to contact them to file a police report and claim the stolen items.

Five show dogs were unharmed and the fate of a sixth isn't known after a fire seriously damaged an Ypsilanti Township home this morning, fire officials said.

The fire broke out sometime before 10 a.m. in the 7200 block of Textile Road, near Hitchingham Road.

Man assaults roommate after losing video game, Ypsilanti police say

A man told police his roommate assaulted him, slashed the rear tire of his Dodge Stratus and wrote a curse word on the driver's side door after he lost in a video game, Ypsilanti police say.

updated: Police investigate fatal accident on eastbound I-94 near Ypsilanti

A garbage truck T-boned a vehicle this morning, killing a 35-year-old Ypsilanti woman on I-94 near Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti, troopers said.

The accident was reported about 9:17 a.m., and all eastbound lanes have been shut down, dispatchers said. Police did not have any other details.

A winter storm expected to dump 5 to 9 inches on the Ann Arbor area arrived earlier than expected and has already caused one fatal crash on I-94 in Ypsilanti and numerous other crashes, police said.

You won't find any sign of a sagging economy at the Baker's Nook in Saline. An expansion of its brick-and-mortar operation and strong online retail sales have doubled revenues over the past four years for the baking supplies business owned and operated by Brian and Anne Shockley of Tecumseh.

Anne Shockley and her mother opened the Baker’s Nook in 1994 to fulfill the creative needs of bakers and to supply birthday and wedding cakes to the neighborhood. Brian and Anne wed in 2000, and he began handling the technical operations.

Ypsilanti parents pack school board meeting to oppose school closings

Roughly 150 parents, teachers and community members packed the Ypsilanti Public Schools board meeting Monday night to make clear their opposition to proposed school closures.

Many of those speaking during the public comment portion echoed remarks and concerns shared in several public forums over the last month.
