1,500 customers remain without power in Ann Arbor area, DTE officials say

By Lee Higgins

An estimated 1,500 DTE customers in the Ann Arbor area remain without power this morning after severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon brought high winds and heavy rains, DTE officials said this morning.

Power is expected to be restored by the end of the day, officials said.

Today is expected to be mostly sunny in the Ann Arbor area with a high near 76, but there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, forecasters are calling for a low around 52. And Monday, it's supposed to be mostly sunny with a high near 77, the weather service said.

I live in Livingston County and the storm was horrible in the area I live in (Pinckney area Chain-of Lakes) we just got the power back on about 4:00 this afternoon. I would like to say that the DTE phone customer service system has a lot to work on as far as fielding calls. We had a power line down in the street and when I called to report it, the automated service, which was all you could get connected to, put me on hold for almost an hour. I finally hung up and called back and pushed the button to report it as an emergency not a power line down, the recording told me it would be an hour before a customer service rep would be available to take my call. I find this to be totally unacceptable! Why have an emergency line and a power line down option if you can't get to customers in a timely fashion. I would like to thank the workers who were out everywhere working as quickly as possible to get the power back on; I told the guys that showed up at our location thank you and they were very nice and replied "You are very welcome." I know they are subject to a lot of customer complaints since the customer service rep's cannot even be reached, but these people are only there to work in hazardous situations with the end goal of safely get the power back on so they can go home and be with their families. Thanks again to the on the road workers and BOOOO to DTE's automated customer service process!!

Maybe Ann Arbor will make another Top 10 list for most power outages caused by average thunderstorm?

As a liberal atheist (with good spelling skills), instead of praying maybe I should just try harder to understand how some comments fail to make it past the annarbor.com censors, while others that are incoherent, irrelevant and deliberately (but ineffectively) provocative are able to be published.

The government should rebuild the power grid in Livingston County instead of Bagdad. DTE sure can't keep the pwer on this summer.

I wonder where the power is out. Maybe a map would help me understand.
