A 17-year-old man faces seven felony charges after Ypsilanti police say he assaulted and attempted to carjack two people in separate incidents Friday night.

Justin Deonta Biddles is accused of punching a woman in the arm when she refused to give up her car keys, then breaking into an elderly man's home and assaulting him with a broom while demanding his car keys.

In the first case, he was arraigned on charges of assault with intent to rob while unarmed, carjacking and attempted home invasion. In the second case, he faces charges of armed robbery, carjacking, home invasion, and malicious destruction of property.

Police say Biddles went to the Forrest Knoll apartment complex late Friday and first approached a woman who was retrieving an item from her vehicle. She told police he demanded her keys and punched her in the arm as she refused and shut the door.

Minutes later, Biddles is accused of forcing his way into an apartment where a 79-year-old man was sleeping and assaulting him while threatening to kill him if he didn't give up his keys.

Police say Biddles ordered the man outside, where the man was able to get into a large delivery truck. Biddles began smashing the windshield and driver's window of the truck, spraying shattered glass on him, police said. The man suffered facial and head injuries.

Biddles was arrested near the scene by responding officers.

He is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail on $250,000 bond and faces up to life in prison if convicted of the armed robbery and carjacking charges.

A preliminary hearing was set for July 27.
