2-year-old boy found walking alone in Ypsilanti

A 2-year-old boy was found walking alone Monday near the intersection of Perrin Street and Washtenaw Avenue, an Ypsilanti police incident log said.

The boy let himself out of his house at about 12:56 p.m. while his mother was sleeping, according to the log.

A man found the child near the road and put him in his child's stroller as he waited for police, the log said. The boy was turned over to his mother.

Children's Protective Services has been contacted to investigate.

This happened to me, too, when my children were small. One Saturday morning at 7:30 am, my wife and I woke up suddenly because it had gotten strangely quiet in the house. My resourceful 3-year old and her younger brother pulled a kitchen chair across the living room, unlocked the deadbolt, and wandered across the street to play on the play set in the neighbors' back yard. People with kids have to sleep with one eye open.

My brother did the same thing, when he was about 3 years old, only he left in the middle of the night & the police found him @ 3AM, 1/2 mile away. Fortunately, our half-grown dog was w/ him & was wearing a tag that included the house address.
Sometimes, I'm amazed that any of us made it to adulthood.
