My brother did the same thing, when he was about 3 years old, only he left in the middle of the night & the police found him @ 3AM, 1/2 mile away. Fortunately, our half-grown dog was w/ him & was wearing a tag that included the house address. Sometimes, I'm amazed that any of us made it to adulthood.

This happened to me, too, when my children were small. One Saturday morning at 7:30 am, my wife and I woke up suddenly because it had gotten strangely quiet in the house. My resourceful 3-year old and her younger brother pulled a kitchen chair across the living room, unlocked the deadbolt, and wandered across the street to play on the play set in the neighbors' back yard. People with kids have to sleep with one eye open.
