2 Ypsilanti women suspected in domestic assaults

By AnnArbor.com Freelance Journalist

Two domestic disputes Saturday in Ypsilanti — one involving the breaking of glass and other items and the other allegedly spiraling into assault — may end in charges for the women involved.

In the first case, reported at 8:32 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Ferris Street after a caller reported yelling between a male and female coupled with the sound of glass breaking. As police investigated at the scene, the woman refused to let the man leave the house, then began breaking more household items, police said.

Police forwarded the matter to prosecutors for possible action.

Thirty-five minutes later, police were sent to the 600 block of East Michigan Avenue after a caller reported an argument between a man and woman arguing over the woman’s drug addiction. The man told officers the woman assaulted him but fled the scene before they arrived.

Charges in that case are pending, police said.

Neither suspect was arrested.

One thing for sure is that Domestic Assault laws seriously need tweaking. My son was arrested 3 weeks ago thanks to an angry x-girlfriend alleging such charges that she stated happened in April at MY home. She even got the ONLY date she has been at my home in months incorrect. (yep a session of "tickling & giggling took place in my living room...LOL) And the entire court procedure was handled with such a lack of information to my son, his father & myself that my son got blindsided into going along with the charge to "prevent further costs" & other nonsense!! ....Yah Right !!! No background on this girls psychiatric problems, HER arrest for Domestic Assault & Battery in 2009 or her harassment of my son via extremely foul text messaging and her constant calls to the police for suicide threats (via Police Records brought to the courtroom) was even looked at!! What a load of horse manure !!! I was told by Washtenaw County Sheriffs officers that this type of complaint ALWAYS results in an arrest!!! WOW !! And no one in this story was arrested? I have a complete lack of respect for our legal system and some of the people working within it. You just have to laugh.

"Neither suspect was arrested". 1 law for men... another law for women. Not right! A man can't even raise his voice without going to jail, but a woman can assault & not even go to jail.

Providing all Americans with unfettered access to firearms, as so many gun advocates so deeply desire, might mean police would never have to be called back for incidents involving these couples ever again. Two would be dead and the other pair would be imprisoned for the next several decades. Write the NRA a check.

I am in complete agreement. I think the police have become "babysitters" way too much over the last 10-20 years.

Hearing of more and more CAT fights here lately, and usually over a man. I don't get it, just let the man leave.

amen, RJA, it doesn't make sense. no one, male or female, is worth getting into trouble over.

I used to live in an attached condo with neighbors on both sides. Every night each of the women would be yelling and screaming and throwing things around, very bizarre. As soon as I had enough monies to improve my socioeconomic position I moved out.

It's about time the police go after the females too. I know of a few cases where the female hits and starts the fight but the male ends up in jail. men can't defend themselves i guess, according to the law.

I thought an arrest was mandatory for domestic violence? Because these were women they the law doesn't apply?
