3-car crash on I-94 slowing traffic Thursday morning

By John Counts

A three-car accident on westbound Interstate 94 just east of U.S. 23 in Pittsfield Township was causing traffic backups during Thursday morning's rush hour, dispatchers said.

The accident occurred just after 8 a.m. Dispatchers said there were injures, but did not immediately know the extent of them.

A Google traffic map showed a lengthy backup on the freeway.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Why is it that I 94 is three lanes out to Ann Arbor and three lanes going west from Ann Arbor, but around Ann Arbor, where it really needs to be three lanes, its only two lanes? The resulting heavy traffic volume is the likely the cause of many accidents along this stretch.

How many accidents, deaths have occurred on this stretch east of State Street? Is it above the norm expected?

It was on westbound 94, not eastbound.
