3 killed in crash near South Lyon

A two car collision on Christmas Day in northeast Washtenaw County resulted in fatal injuries for three people and hospitalization for a fourth.

The victims - two women and one man - and the driver of the second vehicle were heading to a family gathering, according to a report on ClickOnDetroit.com.

No information was available on their names or hometowns. The driver of the second car was hospitalized at the University of Michigan hospital, but her condition was not available late early Wednesday.

The collision happened as they were driving on 8 Mile Road near Currie. According to a report on MyFoxDetroit.com, the crash happened on the Oakland County side of the road, and deputies from the Oakland County sheriff's office will handle the investigation. Washtenaw County deputies, Salem Township firefighters and Huron Valley Ambulance also were on the scene.

The location is southeast of South Lyon and west of Maybury State Park near Northville.
