AATA reduces bus service for holidays

The Ann Arbor Transit Authority is reducing its bus services for the holidays.

The AATA’s Senior, A-Ride and regular bus services, will be closed both on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. The AATA’s main office and transit centers also will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Fixed-route bus services will close early on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve with the last buses leaving the Blake Transit Center at 6:45 p.m.

The Eastern Michigan University Shuttle, Route 33, will close Dec. 18, 2009 - Jan. 5, 2010, and Routes 1U and 2X will be closed Dec. 24-31.

Other reductions the week of Dec. 24-31 include:

Route 4
• Routes 4A and 4B will only operate trips that leave the Blake Transit Center at 18 and 48 minutes past the hour and the Ypsilanti Transit Center on the hour and the half hour.
• Routes 4A and 4B will pull into the University of Michigan Health System and the Medford/Manchester stops.
• Route 4C will be closed.

Route 18
• The bus will operate every half hour from 9:19 a.m. to 3:49 p.m. between the Miller Road Park & Ride Lot and the Blake Transit Center.

Route 36
• Service will be reduced to every 30 minutes at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.

The AATA’s Holiday and Night Ride taxi service will be available during Christmas and New Year’s.

The Night Ride starts at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Holiday Ride will operate on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Both services operate only within the city of Ann Arbor. Cost is $5, $2.50 for Senior and A-Ride cardholders and $1 for go!pass holders. Call 734-528-5432 to make a trip.

You know, if they installed that Monorail everyone's been talking about then they wouldn't have to reduce bus service- there are no drivers on a monorail so you don't need to give anyone the day off. This whole monorail thing sounds better and better the more I let it sink in.
