AATA routes experiencing 10-minute delays tonight due to accident-induced traffic
Most Ann Arbor Transportation Authority bus routes are experiencing delays of 10 minutes or more Monday night due to traffic, according to a statement issued by the authority at 6:35 p.m. Monday.
Minor accidents at four major intersections between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Monday in Ann Arbor have caused traffic congestion on major roads in the area.
There are collisions at US-23 and Carpenter Road; Main Street and Huron Avenue; Washtenaw Avenue and Huron Parkway; and Washtenaw Avenue and Platt Road, according to Washtenaw County Central Dispatch.
In addition, several detours also are in effect from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday night for the following AATA bus lines because of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry event in downtown Ann Arbor: Routes 1, 2 and 6 all have missed stops.

How come AnnArbor.com doesn't have this story leading the front page? It looks like something terrible happened there. When I drove by on my way home from work, traffic was backed up all the way back to Tappan school. Then, when I finally passed the scene, you could see the police interviewing people and there was a mangled bicycle in the road just in front of the rec center. No bodies fortunately. This seems like a pretty major story. What gives?

Will you report on the fact that there appeared to be a body in the right lane of eastbound Washtenaw Avenue in front of the Meri Lou Murray rec center around 5:30? I saw several people trying to help the person and also waving traffic off in that lane. Eventually, someone brought over a blanket to cover whoever it was. I thought by the evening hours there would be a report, but see nothing.

Re: Washtenaw/Platt accident Huron Valley Ambulance was ready with two stetchers. And the police took pictures of the scene. It must have been bad. I couldn't really see more from the Rec Center. That's one terrible stretch of road. I'm not looking forward to the additional strip mall in in which construction has started. And that pedestrian crossing is extremely dangerous.

No kidding - that area is such a dangerous mess. There must be a way to improve that before more traffic is added.

The fact that this is a news story just shows how good Ann Arborites have it. When I lived in Lansing, my bus was supposed to come every 10 minutes. Except sometimes, one bus would be ten minutes early, and the next would be ten minutes late. So I would stand around in the snow waiting half an hour for a bus that would supposedly come every ten minutes.

Whatever happened at Washtenaw and Platt (just east of the Pkwy) was NOT minor. It shut traffic in both directions for 10 minutes and caused a delay twice as long. Though relatively brief, it looked severe, involving a car or two and a truly unfortunate bicyclist. I hope there was no fatality.

I was directly in front (driving on the opposite side) of the accident at Washtenaw and Platt...it was really horrific. Poor girl was trying to cross on her bicycle, I slowed down to let her pass in front of me, and then out of nowhere over the hill a red SUV broadsided her and she and her bike flew in the air and landed in the right hand lane. Thank god the person in that lane was alert and stopped in time. The driver of the SUV stopped in the left turn lane and got out to help her right away, but it didn't look so good...she wasn't moving at all, her bike was basically bent in half. An ambulance got there within minutes and I hope she's okay...I can't believe there hasn't been any story about this. If anyone knows information about the girl's condition, please share. It was a terrifying thing just to see, I cannot imagine how anyone involved is dealing with it.

Downtown is closed AGAIN for a race?!? Why can't Ann Arborites be fat like the rest of Michigan?
