Abe's Coney Island employee punched by disgruntled customer

By Heather Lockwood

A customer punched an Abe's Coney Island employee during a dispute over his food order early Wednesday, Ypsilanti police said.

Ypsilanti Police Sgt. Eddie Davis said the customer phoned in an order, and when he arrived at the restaurant at 402 W. Michigan Ave. to pick it up, he became involved in a dispute with an employee.

Davis said the argument escalated, and the customer punched the female employee.

Police received the call about 3:55 a.m. Davis said the assailant had left the restaurant by the time police arrived.

Davis said the employee was not seriously injured.

Police are attempting to identify the customer.

I said no relish... *punch* Clearly, the assailant lacks the verbal skills to voice his opinion. Too bad, given that this is the 21 Century.

I've personally seen alot of crazy things go down in Coney Islands during after hour times (2:00 am-6:00 am). This being one of the few establishments open to individuals after the bars and clubs close. In addtion and for some odd reason, Coney Islands are the catch all spot for all types of characters. Bottom line and unfortunately, I am not at all surprised by this incident. But I do love my chili cheese fries!

"...the assailant had left the restaurant by the time police arrived." it's almost across the street for pete's sake!?! was the argument over the cost or the food? was a number left w/the phone order?

WoW that's terrible! On the investigation into finding this person...don't places like this usually take a phone number or something when customers order by phone? Also, an easy check of the phone records would get you the customer's number.

Oh Vernice, I'm so glad I got to see that before it was taken down. That aside, I wish this story included more details about what was ordered. I'm sure he would be a much more relate-able villain if we could piece together the facts of what he ordered and what he was given instead. What drives a man to such violence!? My best guess: fried mushrooms. Only fried mushrooms can arouse such passions.
