Air quality alert issued for Friday in Washtenaw County

By Chelsea Hoedl

An air quality alert has been issued for Washtenaw County and the surrounding area on Friday. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has declared it to be an action day for elevated levels of ozone.

Pollutants are expected to be at the’ unhealthy for sensitive groups’ level. Active people and people with respiratory diseases should limit prolonged outdoor exposure, according to the alert.

Carpooling and delaying or combining errands is encouraged to avoid ozone formation. Refueling vehicles, topping off when refueling, using gasoline-powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid should be avoided if possible.

For more information, visit the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s website.
