Man arrested in robbery at Peninsular Place apartments in Ypsilanti

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police arrested one man Tuesday and are seeking another in an armed robbery that investigators say wasn't committed at random.

Two sisters originally told police two men forced their way into their residence Monday at Peninsular Place apartments, 1000 North Huron River Drive, and robbed them at gunpoint.

Investigators determined the sisters were robbed at gunpoint by two men, one of whom they know, police said. But police said the men didn't force their way inside.

Acting Police Chief Paul DeRidder said in a release this morning that the man who was arrested and his accomplices are believed to be involved in other home invasions throughout the city.

Police said this morning the robbery was not drug-related.

A 23-year-old Detroit man was arrested Tuesday night in Ypsilanti Township and is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail. He has not yet been charged.

Investigators are working to identify a second man believed to be involved. Police have not yet recovered the laptop, wallet, flat-screen television and other items reported stolen.

Investigators continue to conduct interviews to determine exactly what occurred.

Anyone with information can call police at (734) 483-9510.

I worked at Penn Place for 2 yrs. I wonder how this could happen they had rent a cop`s.They are paid to walk the site stair ways court yard`s.But they never did a very good job. They also pay 2 student`s to walk the site check lights keep a eye out for this type of stuff preform lock outs. They did not do a very good job either. The unit`s had panic buttons sort of like pull cords for old folks. If pushed it goes right to the Ypsi city cop`s. But after so many kids pushing them for a joke. The cops quit running there as fast as they could. That part of the city is getting bad for crime the farther down Laforge the worse it gets.I tried to get a unit for the city cops to rent but it never went threw. Some of the tennents are not someone I would want to rent to.Very nice place when new but getting to be bad there now.

And the background of these criminals is relevant because it would excuse their behavior and choices? The why of it is less important than the fact of it.

Good to know that the confusion was cleared up. As much as I disagree with his oppinion, I would hate to see his post "disappeared".

Ms. Murray: M Sunset did comment on the story yesterday. It wasn't this particular article, but it was about the robbery.

This is good news. Given that it was not a home invasion, perhaps the victims knew the "alleged" criminals. I'd be interested if any Carhart clothing was involved.

I would really like to see a background on this suspect, in the hope that I would be able to determine that he came from a "well off" family... As macabre sunset suggested

If it did not take place at their home, then where? What time of day was it?

Investigators determined a home invasion didn't occur at the apartment... Police have not yet recovered the laptop, wallet, flat-screen television and other items... So, exactly where does one keep one's flat-screen television when not at home?
