The cancellation affects games and practices, according to Rec & Ed staff.

The temperature in Ann Arbor just before 1 p.m. was 95, but the heat index made it feel like 101. Forecasts say the real temperature could climb to 102.

The area remains under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Saturday. It could feel as hot as 110 later today and Saturday.

People are urged to take extra precautions due to the heat:

  • Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.
  • Drink plenty of water.
