Really?

It's ignorant to think that just because you don't read about crime in the paper that it's not happening in your area. I'm in public safety and I love all the people that think we sit around all day because they didn't read about anything in the paper. I don't know how many reporters A2.com has, but do you really think it's enough to cover EVERY crime and event that happens in the area? They have to focus on certain ones then run with it. If they didn't, the stories would all be brief and then people would just complain about not getting enough details. Either way, you folks seem to complain, so they have to do the best with what they can. Cut them some slack already.

Billy..perfect example and thanks for proving a point in how the media can portray one place being more violent then another. I've lived in Ypsi for over 25 years and have never had a problem..knock on wood..8 years ago, I moved to a smaller town, and within the year, there was a triple homicide, our cars were broken into, meth labs and my neighbor was arrested for having an aresenal in his garage. This coming from a city that was rated a top city to live in! But you won't read any of those articles in this particular cities paper either.

From reading articles it seems there are more violent home invasions in YPSI than Ann Arbor. Most of the crime in Ann Arbor seems to be breaking into vehicles or homes where no one is present. From experience, having lived in YPSI and ann arbor, YPSI is far more dangerous.

Malorie When I posted 4 hours ago those articles were not there. I think you need to check the crime page again. Even if the Ypsi PD releases more reports, does this blog have to print everyone of them? It also doesn't appear that on the individual stories there is a link to the Ypsi PD reports or citations saying that the information comes from the Ypsi PD, so one has to assume otherwise especially when the tags are for Washtenaw County (which Ann Arbor is a part of) Sheriff's Department. The bias has always been there, even with the old print version but it has become more apparent online, sorry that you don't see it that way. Hope you have a Happy Holiday!

@hypsi - Maybe we are somehow using two different news sites. The top headlines in crime currently are: Ann Arbor man victimized by hacker Ann Arbor man arrested after drunken driving crash in Ypsilanti Ann Arbor crime statistics for Dec. 13 - Dec. 19, 2009. So I guess you just skipped the ones that mentioned Ann Arbor to prove your point. Yes I'd also like some detailed stories about some of these incidents, I'm not arging that. I'm just getting pretty sick of people constantly complaining about the so-called bias of annarbor.com. People are always saying how more crime in Ypsi is covered than Ann Arbor, making it appear as though Ypsi has dramatically more crime. Have you ever thought maybe Ypsi PD releases more information about the crimes committed so that they can be reported in detail? What if it's the AAPD that doesn't release much crime information (for any number of reasons that I can think of)? I just highly doubt that obscuring crime in Ann Arbor would benefit AnnArbor.com at all. I do miss the daily Police Beat that was printed in the Ann Arbor News. It would be nice if AnnArbor.com could do it.

Malorie, I do not see these individual crimes written up in articles under "Crime"....which is where any of us would expect them to be. That is why I asked Ms Nash for further information about the location of these articles. As far as I know, there's no crime in asking.

@Malorie So yeah, I clicked on crime these are the first four article headlines: Ypsilanti Township man charged with carrying a concealed weapon Deputies investigate two unarmed robberies in Ypsilanti Township Stolen puppy returned to the Humane Society of Huron Valley Burglary investigated on Railroad Street in Ypsilanti The list goes on and on all with Ypsilanti.. Just as an example: You can see from the crime stats above that there was an assault that occured on December 15th at Briarwood Cir..if you go through the crime section there are no specific stories about this incident, which would be good to know about as many people frequent Briarwood. Can you again tell me these individual A2 crime stories are?

@Cash - click on "Crime". Whether you want to complain about a non-issue like the coverage of A2 crime vs. Ypsi crime or not, it DOES have full stories of crime in Ann Arbor.

Amalie, Where have you been posting those daily stories of crime in the city of Ann Arbor? I'd like to see those daily articles. Sometimes it's hard to follow the threads here.

@OverTaxed: I don't see any ethnicities spiked out in the report. How do you attribute it to "diverse people"?

I would also like to see extended crime coverage, particularly for Pittsfield Township.

As a resident of Ypsilanti Township, I wonder why the coverage of crime in that area is covered by through individual stories versus this list from Ann Arbor. Clearly, an equal amount of crime is occurring in both communities, yet the type of coverage paints a vastly different picture between the two.
