Ann Arbor has highest gas prices in the state this week, AAA Michigan says
Ann Arbor has the highest average in the state for a gallon of unleaded fuel at $2.76, AAA Michigan said today.
Despite that, gas prices in Ann Arbor fell a few pennies over the past week; last Monday's average was $2.80. A year ago, local drivers were paying $2 a gallon to fill up.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan said the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel is in the Saginaw/Bay City area at $2.60 a gallon.

Ok, Spencer - if what you say is true...how come gas is cheaper in Bloomfield Hills and Gross Point? Seems they have a bit more cash than A2. *shrugs*

Why does gas cost more in AA? Because real estate costs more in AA, because AA taxes are higher, or because they figure they can rip us off? The latter reason would seem to require a higher degree of collusion between independent gas station owners than I'm prepared to believe exists. I remember, 20-something years ago, when I was considering moving to the Bay Area. I commented on the high cost of everything, and my friend (who was already living there) pointed out that because everything costs more, the cost of providing everything is also higher, and therefore everything costs more. At the base is a simple supply-and-demand equation -- people are willing to pay more to live in a desirable area, and that drives up real estate prices, driving up everything else in the long run.

Why is this even a news story anymore? The headline is the same week after week, about the only thing it is telling us is to buy gas out of the city of Ann Arbor. Second thing I want to know is why is it 70 cents more per gallon this year than last?

How about do a story on WHY we have to pay so much for gas because we live in Ann Arbor?. I'm same as iceman, I get a majority of my gas from Ypsi, but there are still plenty of times I don't have a choice other than to fill up here...

I've been buying gas in Ypsilanti since Katrina hit! It's usually 5 to 10 cents cheaper a gallon.
