Updated at 10 p.m. with new snowfall totals and school closings.

Ann Arbor has already seen 7 inches of snow, as of 8:45 p.m.

And the storm isn't close to ending, the National Weather Service says.

"Oh no, Ann Arbor is about to get clobbered here," meteorologist Matt Mosteiko of the National Weather Service's White Lake Township office said at 6:15 p.m. "The radar is lit up yellow to red over Ann Arbor, which is high on the scale."

The precipitation coming down is a heavy snow that has the potential to partially melt as it comes down, Mosteiko said. At some point it will turn to freezing rain or sleet, then back to snow by morning.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Monday.

The area is expected to see up to 10 inches of snow by the time the storm moves out by 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, forecasters said.

Freezing rain was being reported in Adrian in Lenawee County at 6 p.m., Mosteiko said.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission has a full deployment of plows out this evening, and those crews will be out clearing all night, officials said.

The morning commute is expected to be rough, but most local school districts are on break. Students were already scheduled to be off in Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter, Willow Run, Lincoln, Saline, and Whitmore Lake.

Ypsilanti was scheduled to be in session, but officials called off classes for Monday this evening. Also closed Monday are Milan Area Schools, Community Day Care, Michigan Islamic Academy, Milan Children's Nursery, South Arbor Academy, and Summers-Knoll School.

Washtenaw Community College has canceled classes that start before noon Monday, but classes scheduled to start after noon will be held.

Washtenaw County dispatchers say plenty of accidents have been reported on area roadways this afternoon and evening, but no serious injuries resulted.

I've already shovelled my sidewalk twice yesterday and at 4:55 a.m. this morning it looks like I didn't shovel at all. My back is killing me. Snowpocolypse indeed!

I just got home from working in Belleville. Believe me, the roads here (I live in Pittsfield Twp.) are in *significantly* better condition than the roads in Belleville.

No updates yet on the snow plow status page for Ann Arbor http://www.a2gov.org/government/publicservices/fieldoperations/Pages/StreetSnowPlowingStatus.aspx which is still showing the previous storm.

We just back from Chicago via the Megabus. Wow. We must have seen 10 cars off the sides of the road, particularly around Battle Creek. I think the roads were worst in Washtenaw County, but it was obvious how bad they are, so people had slowed way down. Farther west the roads were serious ice but it wasn't as obvious. One little warm-up and people think winter's over. It's only February, after all. Thundersnow and ice-storm season is next up. I just hope this keeps falling as snow. Freezing rain takes out power lines.

The trajectory of the storm changed. If you have to shovel, do it now. Shoveled twice today maintaining the cleanest sidewalk in the city. The freezing rain will turn the snow into glacial ice. Goodluck removing it tomorrow morning...hit it now!

I would love to be a meteorologist, this morning they were calling for 3-5, i guess they were wrong. I guess I went into the wrong field of study, can be wrong, yet still keep a job.

Karen St John, on the other hand, perhaps my joke is funny because it is based in truth; it is simply easier to espouse concusions that cannot be verified in the real world.

Did you know that chaos theory originates from meteorology? Chaos theory is about the behavior of systems where small, even minute changes in initial conditions may make an outcome change dramatically. Weather prediction is still a very new science. That means we are still learning what causes changes in the weather. If it helps, within relatively recent history weather systems basically just "showed up." @FredMax...it is much easier to predict macro effects on a macro scale, than it is to predict local systems behavior? For the same reasons given above. All sorts of things went very right with this forecast, even with the meteorologists making it being in the very uncomfortable position of having to approximate on the side of caution. Even 3-5 inches can send you into a ditch, a bridge abutment, or another car with a family. Think about that for a minute.

Scientists can tell us the "global warming temperature" 80 years from now. Scientists can tell us the precise timeline of the big-bang billions of years ago. But scientists can't tell us what the weather is going to be the next day;)

Yeah, let's go back to the good old days when you would pay attention to whether your bunions hurt. Do people not realize how amazing it is that we get such accurate forecasts of something so inherently unpredictable?

I do believe Milan Area Schools are scheduled to be open tomorrow, unless the weather prevents. They are in Washtenaw County, too.
