Ann Arbor man accused of stabbing mother deemed fit for trial
An Ann Arbor man accused of beating and repeatedly stabbing his mother over the summer was found competent to stand trial.
Court records show doctors at the Forensic Center of Psychiatry in York Township determined Anthony Pocrnich understands the charges against him and can assist in his own defense.
He faces one count of assault with intent to murder at a preliminary hearing on Nov. 10.
Ann Arbor police officers arrested Pocrnich at the home he shared with his mother in the 1400 block of Hatcher Crescent on July 14.
Police said he stabbed the 49-year-old woman repeatedly in the torso with a knife at about 6 a.m. She called police for help. Police said she was hospitalized for several days but is recovering.
Pocrnich was on probation for two years following a conviction for assault stemming from a 2005 attack on his mother, records show.
He remains in custody on $100,000 bond.

In 2002 a story similar to this took place in Ypsi township, the mother was raped and beaten over the head...killed by her son. Tragic is the only word to describe. However, just like this mother currently, it was not the first time.

"Ann Arbor man accused of stabbing mother deemed fit for trial" makes it sound like the mother is deemed fit for trial! Doubt if that is what the writer intended.

What's Mother's Day like in that household?

I know this mother and son. Both are wonderful people. I heard from the mother what really happened so please before anyone rushes to judgement one should learn the facts. I think you'll be compassionate if not more understanding. This article has false reporting (ie. there was no fight) and this is very upsetting to the mother.

If doctors found him competent and he has already spent time in prison for the same charge, If (when) they find him guilty, put him in prison forever. He already had his chances.
