Ann Arbor man dies in 1-car crash Wednesday morning

By Kyle Feldscher

A 63-year-old Ann Arbor man died Wednesday morning after he suffered an apparent medical emergency and his car went off M-14 and into trees and a road sign, police said.

Steven Daugherty was killed at the scene of the crash about 5 a.m. Wednesday at eastbound M-14 near Beechwood Drive, according to a statement released by Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Thompson.

Police said Daugherty was parked in his silver 2008 Cadillac CTS on the right shoulder of M-14. Police said he pulled out in front of another vehicle and drove off the freeway onto the left shoulder. The CTS then went across M-14 to the right and left the roadway.

The CTS struck a road sign and several trees before coming to a stop, police said. Daugherty died at the scene of the crash.

“It appears the driver may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash,” the statement read.

Daugherty was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The Michigan State Police responded to the crash and were assisted by the Ann Arbor Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics.

Thought and prayers to you and your family Cassie. Absolutely awful. He had just lost his wife and now the family is dealing with this tragedy. So difficult to rationalize nor comprehend. So difficult... Our family sends our love.

Why does this sound like a television show. Men in Trees? Wow. What a mess. Condolences to the family.
