Ann Arbor Optimist Club names Detective Greg Jones 2009 Officer of the Year

The Ann Arbor Optimist Club has named Ann Arbor Police Detective Greg Jones as its 2009 Officer of the Year.

The annual award was presented by the club at its meeting last week.

Jones joined the Ann Arbor Police Department in 1993 and became a detective in 1997.

Since 2008, Jones has headed the department's crime scene tech unit and is trained in such areas as crime scene reconstruction, crime scene photography, bloodstain pattern analysis, and homicide and forensic death investigations.

Since January, Jones also has been in charge of the department's firearms registration program, LiveScan and sex offender registration. He also continues to carry an investigative case load.

"While Detective Jones' impressive career is noteworthy, it is his pride, dedication, attitude, and work ethic that is worthy of recognition," Ann Arbor Police Lt. Angella Abrams said in a release.
