Ann Arbor police crime statistics for Sept. 20-26, 2009

Burglaries topped the list of crimes in Ann Arbor last week, Ann Arbor Police data shows.

For the week of Sunday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 26, 13 burglaries were reported - 10 were classified as home invasions and seven of those 10 included forced entry.

Next on the list were 12 assaults, three involving weapons, and 11 thefts from a vehicle.

Here is a summary of the 42 incidents were reported.

• Residential burglary with forced entry: 7

• Residential burglary without forced entry: 3
• Non-residential burglary: 3
• Attempted burglary: 1
• Assault and battery: 9
• Assault with a weapon: 3
• Larceny from a vehicle: 11
• Stolen car: 3
• Sexual assault: 2

I'd like to make a few recommendations on your presentation. - Can you create different symbols for each category of crime along with a key. That way it easiest to see what types of crime are happening where with a glance at the map. - Can you please add trend information? For example - how did this compare with the same week last year? How did it compare with last week. - Just having raw data really doesn't provide us with the type of information I'm looking for. I believe more could be done to support the reader. - Thank You.

This is a poor substitute for the kind of informational coverage and statistics previously provided by the Ann Arbor News, but I am afraid that is a comment that can be applied to this site, in general. It is turning out to be a wholly inadequate source of news, and a major source of opinion, blogs and puff pieces.
