Ann Arbor Public Schools end lockdown initiated after armed robbery at Lake Trust Credit Union

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Ann Arbor Public Schools have ended a perimeter lockdown initiated at several schools in the area of the armed robbery of the Lake Trust Credit Union on Packard Street this morning.

Just before 11:30 a.m., spokeswoman Liz Margolis said the lockdown was ended. Schools that had been on lockdown included Pattengill, Allen, Pittsfield and Burns Park elementary schools, Tappan Middle School and Stone High School, according to an e-mail sent to parents this morning. The charter school Central Academy and private schools Summers-Knoll and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School were also on lockdown.

A perimeter lockdown means students are still moving between classes but no one can enter or leave school grounds, Margolis said.

This is the second time in a week schools in the area have been on lockdown as a result of an armed robbery. Tappan, Stone, Allen and Pattengill, as well as Bryant Elementary School were locked down Oct. 21 when armed gunmen robbed the Bank of America branch at Eisenhower and Packard and fired shots inside the building.

@ Lyn - Parents of children at the affected AAPS received a phone call with details as to why the lockdown was cancelled and what safety procedures the AA Police were taking for students who walked home.

It is an inadequate amount of information from the school to the parents to just say the lock down is over and the children are safe to walk home from school. Why is it safe now? What are the developments that lead them to make that conclusion???

The Early Learning Center preschool is also on lock down following the Credit Union robbery this morning. All doors are locked, and parents are asked to look carefully around the area before leaving their cars. A staff member will open the door for parents/caregivers. Unless the suspect is apprehended, afternoon students will parade indoors this afternoon.
