Ann Arbor's snowfall total at 3 inches, but a bit more will fall before morning, forecasters say

By Amalie Nash

The snowstorm isn't quite over.

The National Weather Service says light to moderate snow will continue falling overnight, resulting in 1-2 more inches by morning.

But Washtenaw County isn't among the areas expecting the most snow yet tonight — the most intense snowfall will be in St. Clair, Macomb, eastern Oakland and eastern Wayne counties, the weather service said.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until midnight.

As of 8 p.m., 3 inches of snow had fallen in southeast Ann Arbor, according to the weather service. Across Metro Detroit, 3-4 inches had fallen as of 9:15 p.m., the service said.

Today's snowfall led to widespread accidents during the evening commute, and school officials said they were keeping close tabs on the forecast to decide whether school would be in session Wednesday.

The weather service warns drivers that roads are snow-covered and slippery, with poor visibility in many areas, so caution is necessary on area roadways.

If the road crews put down salt every time the weather forcasters predicted snow we'd have 3 ft of salt on the roads. How many times have they predicted snow and we didn't get any or very little. We live in a cold weather area that gets snow, deal with it!

Yup. The roads were a disaster in spite of all the warnings and forecasts. They do not get it here. Yes, drivers go too fast for road conditions, but the blame also is on the road crews who do NOT use enough salt and do NOT plow soon enough. They wait too long. This continues to happen all winter long. Is it a lack of plows for the city and county? Is it a lack of crews? Not enough enough drivers? Waiting too long? Not enough salt???? What is the problem EVERY time it snows with terrible snow removal in Washtenaw County and the city of A2?

And yet with all the warnings, the roads were a total disaster. Weather like this reminds me why I spent the money on snow tires.
