University of Michigan weather observer Dennis Kahlbaum says this summer is poised to be among the warmest and wettest on record.

There's been no shortage of rain this summer.

He offered a few weather facts:

  • With an average temperature of 73.4 degrees, this summer is tied with 1966 as the 5th warmest since records began in 1880. The warmest was 74.3 degrees in 1934. The normal summer temperature is 70.7 degrees.
  • With a total precipitation of 16.23 inches, this summer is the 3rd wettest since records began in 1880. The wettest was 18.89 inches in 1902. The normal summer precipitation is 10.21 inches.

Although it's been a hot summer, it's not expected to be a hot Labor Day weekend. 

Saturday's forecast calls for cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s. The forecast improves for Sunday and Monday, which are expected to see sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s on Sunday and high 70s on Monday.
