AnnArbor.com has experienced inconsistent site access today

By Tony Dearing

On Monday, we published a story with the headline, “Field trip for black students sparks controversy at Ann Arbor elementary school.”

Since then, the story has generated significant national attention. Numerous large national news sites have linked to our story - including the Drudge Report today - and that has resulted in record-breaking traffic on our site today.

This sudden, dramatic increase in site traffic has caused difficulty in accessing AnnArbor.com for a good part of the day.

We have made the necessary adjustments to our technology to ensure continuous site access during periods of high traffic, and as of early evening, the site is back to performing as normal. Thank you for your patience and continued support of AnnArbor.com.

What about the "front page"? What has happened to the layout? When you first log in, everythin is in tiny print and all bunched up together. When you go to a link, such as this one, the page appears normal...what's up with that?

Blek, did you get compensated if it rained and a lot of newspapers got wet? Just FYI, I rarely looked at newspaper ads. But I have clicked through on ads on this site and actually used the services. My adult and teenage kids assume that ads are for clicking through. They barely look at anything paper.

My audience is the Ann Arbor market. I pay for my ads by the day, if my audience can't see my ad for a day I lose!

Geez, blek, are you planning to compensate them for the greatly increased audience your ad will get? Congratulations AA.com! I think. It would probably be better if the traffic were due to a journalism award or something, but maybe those will follow.

As an advertiser on Ann Arbor.Com, I'd like to know if we will be compensated for the site being down most of the day?

Thanks for making the announcement. I have been contacted by friends from out of town who have seen the story, and had hoped to refer them to your site. It hasn't been working.
