• Some Trinity Health hospitals on the west side of Michigan are going to start asking questions about race, ethnicity and language during registration to identify disparities in care. The Muskegon Chronicle weighed in.
• If you’re one of the 84.8 percent of Michigananders who are still employed, you’re likely dealing with stress related to keeping your job or taking on extra work which can take a toll on your health. The Detroit Free Press wrote about what to do.
• Could human cloning with nothing more than a couple skin cells be in our future? Check out a Los Angeles Times story about Chinese researchers said they were able to successfully grow healthy and genetically identifcal mice from skin cells - certainly reopening the ethics debate surrounding cloning.
• The Washington Post spoke to the widow of a former University of Michigan patient who died after complications she believes arose from miscommunication among staff. Now, she is working with the university to help avoid similar mistakes, the article says. In another recent Washington Post piece, U-M’s policy on apologizing to families and offering compensation when it makes mistakes has helped saved millions of dollars.

I was hoping a story suggestion thread would start up. Could you please cover swine flu more? The international press looks like this story will explode this fall. We have two of the main hospitals in SE Michigan in the County. How many intensive care beds do they have? What are the government and school plans in place for social distancing? How are things going right now? Any update on the recent UM study that showed greater problems for overweight people with this virus?
