Ypsilanti police investigate several auto break-ins

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police are investigating three vehicle break-ins Wednesday night in which objects were thrown through passenger side windows.

The incidents occurred between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Emmet Street, 300 block of Washtenaw Avenue and 400 block of Florence Street, a police incident log said. The streets are near each other.

A 29-year-old man reported a rock was thrown through one of his car windows on Emmet Street, and a bag containing a first-aid kit was taken from the back seat, the log said.

Another 29-year-old man reported an empty laptop computer bag was taken from his car on Washtenaw Avenue after a rock was thrown through a window.

Also, a 22-year-old woman reported a brick was thrown through one of her car windows on Florence Street, but nothing was taken, according to the log.

Quite ofter perpetrators like this don't travel very far from home; if all the break-ins are plotted on a map, they very well may end up making a ring around where they live.

A woman in the same building as mine had this happen last week, too. It was on Adams St. between Washtenaw and Emmet. They used a rock. It sounds like they aren't traveling very far for each break in.
