Beal Avenue closed to through traffic on North Campus in Ann Arbor

By Cindy Heflin

Beal Avenue is closed to all but local traffic between Hayward and Bonisteel Avenue on the University of Michigan's North Campus in Ann Arbor, said U-M spokeswoman Diane Brown.

The road has been closed since Saturday, when a water pipe broke. That caused water to be shut off to a couple of buildings on the campus.

The water is back on, but some washout of the roadbed may have occurred, and crews are assessing the integrity of the road and trying to determine the origin of the break and what repairs may be needed, Brown said.

The street is expected to be closed to local traffic today, and possibly longer as crews assess the damage, Brown said.

U-M buses have been rerouted. Cars are still allowed to access to two parking lots in the closed section.
