Boy made up story about burglary at his home, Ann Arbor police say

By Lee Higgins

Ann Arbor police say a 13-year-old boy falsely reported his home in the 3600 block of Eli Drive on the city's southeast side was burglarized Feb. 10.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.

The boy reported jewelry, a laptop computer and video game system were taken at about 5:44 p.m., police said. He claimed he was sleeping and woke as a man left the property in an older blue minivan, police said.

Filing a false police report is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.

okay, at 13 he knew he was doing something wrong by reporting a home invasion...but trying him as an adult? Just lucky for him, my Dad isn't going to be doling out punishment for this...I don't fear our judicial system if I were to commit a crime, but I do fear what punishment my Dad would serve up...

I'm pretty surpised there aren't 10 posts here demanding the kid be charged as an adult and imprisoned for 4 years.

I don't think the felony is punishable by up to four years in prison if the offender is a minor. So is the stuff actually missing? Did he sell the stuff and try to cover up so his parents wouldn't know? Where were his parents at almost 6pm????
