By Lee Higgins

A burglar may have turned on the stove at an Ypsilanti home after entering through an unlocked kitchen window and stealing items Monday, a city police incident log said.

The burglary was reported about 8:50 a.m. in the 500 block of West Cross Street, the log said.

Personal checks, a purse, wallet and other items were taken, the log said. The stove also was turned on.

Police do not have any suspects.

When I was young we had someone break into our house, take our valuables, but also cook up a meal in our kitchen! I'm not sure what my mom was more mad about - stealing her valuables or the mess they made in the kitchen...

was it an electric or gas stove? electric, really no big deal. gas, was the burglar hoping to fill the house/apartment/whatever full of gas and expecting an explosion? was the window near the stove where it was turned on as the burglar entered? ie turned the knob w/a foot?
