Car fire closes eastbound I-94 off-ramp to Huron Street

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The off-ramp to Huron Street from eastbound I-94 is currently closed due to a vehicle fire, Washtenaw County dispatchers said.

Firefighters are on the scene, and dispatchers say the ramp will likely reopen soon - although the closure has caused backups in the area. No one was injured, officials said.

I saw this from the exit ramp from early on and was amazed by all the people weaving around stopped "safe" drivers and driving next to the burning car to get by. Eventually the state police were able to stop people from going by/near the vehicle and stop people from trying to enter the exit ramp. People: A vehicle was on fire and getting worse.. cars often times contain quantities of gasoline. Emergency vehichles need to get to the area to assist. Think. Then, we've all seen this before, a not too bright Harley rider with his biker chick decided they shouldn't have to wait behind all the other vehicles now stopped on the ramp and drove by everyone only to get stopped at the front by the state police nearest the burning vehicle. Sorry there were no Darwin award given out at this event =( TL;DR: massive car fire & everyone stopped, Harley rider weaves through only to stop right at fire but survives anyway.
