Catalytic converter taken from car in Pittsfield Township
A catalytic converter was taken from a car Monday night at Glencoe Hills Apartments, a Pittsfield Township police news release said.
The theft in the 2200 block of Glencoe Hills Drive was reported about 5:45 p.m., the release said.
Numerous other catalytic converters were taken from the same complex over the weekend.
Police in Ann Arbor and on the University of Michigan campus also have reported a recent uptick in catalytic converter thefts, which investigators say appears tied to a recent increase in the value of metal.

loka yes but they still have to craw under cut pipes, mounts and brackets, remove and get out and leave. The typical auto theif can steal and take off much faster. But then they have a entire car to get rid of.Thats why I think its someone who only wants the converters

WEll they are with power tools. Sawsall would take one off in under a minute easy. That is if they make a battery powered sawsall...i assume they do. I didn't see anyhting in the articles I've read if they were loveingly removed or chopped.

I think townie is on the right track. Those things are not a snatch and grab item.It takes some time, knowldege and tools to get one off quickly. In fact I'll bet its someone/ person who owns some sort of muffler shop.

Enforcing immigration law would deter most of these thefts.

@townie not arguing here but seeing how cars usally (or at least they used to )run better w/o one why would someone want to replace one? is it because of the computers?

has nothing to do with the price of metal. Its because new converters cost 1500 to 2000 from the dealers and they can sell the stolen ones for 3 to 500.......
