Charges dropped against college students arrested during fake ID probe
Charges were dismissed against three college students who were arrested in February during a federal probe into fake IDs, federal court records show.
University of Michigan students Barak D. Leibovitz, 20, and Samuel D. Hamburger, 19, and Michigan State University student Zachary J. Firestone, 18, were charged in a criminal complaint with illegally possessing or transferring false identification documents.
The charges were dismissed April 12, records show.
Prosecutors requested the charges be dismissed because the “government needs additional time” to obtain evidence, identify all other individuals who should be held criminally responsible or decide whether criminal prosecution is in the public interest, court documents say.
