The Chelsea First Committee unveiled its logo and a prototype of its new Website Wednesday night to about 70 people at the Chelsea Comfort Inn.

The new logo features the word Chelsea with the ‘else’ in Chelsea emphasized. The marketing campaign will include advertising, buttons, T-shirts and other promotional material to help brand the city's image.

Chelsea's Downtown Development Authority and the city provided $25,000 each for a total of $50,000 in seed money for the marketing effort, which is under the umbrella of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s really innovative; very forward thinking,” said Kevin Frahm, executive director of The Mission Marketplace. “I appreciate the long-range planning (of the project) and think it will take a while to really ramp up.”

Matt Friedman, co-owner of Tanner Friedman, a Michigan-based strategic communications firm, and Scott Pryor of Pryor Design Company of Ann Arbor presented the city’s new branding ideas, logo and website, www.chelseamich.com. The site is not yet live.

Among the features planned for the site are pages for all the businesses in town, a calendar and a mobile version of the main site. A link to the site will be on the Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website.

Pryor, who graduated from Chelsea High School, said the site will cater to anyone who wants to "spend an hour, spend a day or spend a lifetime," in Chelsea.

An advisory committee has been meeting for more than a year on the project.

An exact launch date has not been set. Business owners were told they would soon receive details about a marketing tool kit for their individual pages soon.

I agree with not understanding where they are going with the "else" idea, but if you have actually worked/lived in Chelsea for 20 years, you would know that the Chelsea Comfort Inn has something called conference rooms and I suspect that the 70 people weren't guest staying in the Inn, but invited individuals attending the event in a "conference room". Ya think maybe???

Not a fan...What exactly is the purpose of the word "else" in bold font? Why show it to guests at the hotel and not the business owners and residence of Chelsea? I've been here for 20 yrs. I live outside of town and work for a company in down town Chelsea who has been in business for 26yrs. This is the first I've seen or heard anything about a new look for Chelsea.
