Chelsea police investigate 'suspicious' vehicles near schools
The Chelsea Police Department issued an advisory today regarding suspicious vans seen loitering near schools.
The first vehicle residents are asked to watch for is an older, boxy, white van with a blue stripe. The second is a newer, maroon colored van with a Chelsea Boosters sticker in the rear window.
Anyone who sees either vehicle is asked to record the license plate number and a description, and report it to Chelsea police by calling (734) 475-9122, ext. 0. Or call 911.

I'm not from Chelsea, but live in Dexter, just a stone's throw away. What happened that makes these two vehicles suspicious? This was even reported on the Detroit TV stations with no details. No details on A2.com either. If you're going to put out an alert, give us some details please. Then you report that it's just a misunderstanding? Is someone "crying wolf"?

They say it was a misunderstanding however yesterday after the middle school football game the same white fan was following behind the boys. It's a "misunderstanding" because they are afraid to ruin the image of Chelsea. My son has personally had 2 encounters now with this white van. Parents might want to drive your kids to events for awhile instead of letting them walk.

Whereas the details are vague, Im sure that is all the police have to work with. Just because Chelsea is a small town doesnt mean that there arent bad people. The town itself has more than a few registered sex offenders. Besides, how many murders happen in small towns throughout the country? Too many to think of. So just because there are vague details, or someone thinks that the person reporting these issues are seeking attention doesnt mean that it should be taken lightly. Supposedly the warning has been lifted as a misunderstanding, which I doubt it was. However, considering the little faith I have in some specific Chelsea police officers, I have used this situation as a reminder to teach my children about talking to strangers and the dangers that are out there. Regardless of the population of a town.

How could a vehicle with a Chelsea Booster sticker in the window be suspicious? Did they forget to work the concession stand or were they late to volunteer.I would have to agree with you atticus F. The only suspicious vehicle I see in Chelsea are the foreign cars with all the political bumper stickers on them.

I am sure there are numerous vehicles that could meet those descriptions. The article is woefully lacking in details. These two FACTS taken together should make anyone cautious about reporting anything!

I sometimes get the feeling that residents of some of these small towns will simply call the police on you if you're not from that community. I recall seeing a posting from someone recently that was absolutly sure that someone was following their child around. I just have a feeling that their aren't as many shadowy characters wandering around Chelsea and Saline as the residents would like to believe. Part of me thinks it all about the attention that the complaintant recieves after telling everybody about the 'terrible person' who's endangering their child.
