Chelsea police warn of car break-ins following incident Thursday night

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Chelsea police say a resident spotted a man attempting to break into a car in the 100 block of East Middle Street at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The car was locked, and the man didn't get inside and walked away. The resident was only able to describe him as wearing a dark hoodie and jeans.

This morning, police say they took a report of a car break-in in the 200 block of East North Street.

Chelsea police say that due to increased larceny from automobile activity this fall, residents should be on the lookout for suspicious behavior and report it to police.

Residents are also reminded to keep houses, cars and garages locked. Don't leave high value items unattended in vehicles such as GPS units, police said.

Other recent property crimes under investigation include a larceny from automobile in the 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive, a car burglary in the 100 block of VanBuren Street, and a home invasion in the 400 block of West North Street.

Anyone with information on the attempted car break-in is asked to call Chelsea police at 734-475-9122.
