Crash near Chelsea kills passenger, injures driver

By Cindy Heflin

Editor's note: The map has been corrected.

A 24-year-old Dexter-area man died Wednesday night when the car he was riding in rolled over on Lima Center Road south of Island Lake Road in Dexter Township.

Christopher James Boyer was pronounced dead at the scene, Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies said in a press release. The driver of the car, David William Fishburn, 25, of the Chelsea area, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening, deputies said.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. when Fishburn, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu south on North Lima Center Road, lost control of the car, deputies said in the press release. Speed, alcohol and road conditions appear to be factors in the crash, according to the release.

Both men were wearing seatbelts, deputies said. The investigation continues.

Huron Valley Ambulance and the Dexter Area Fire Department assisted at the crash scene.

When will people learn (if ever) Don't drink and Drive and SLOW DOWN. Speeding is not cool along with drinking. Its a tragic loss of a young life. Very sad for the families and friend.

A verse from a song Peter Paul and Mary sang years ago comes to mine..."When will they ever learn? "

What kind of car? Was it a car, or a truck? Was it a truck, or an SUV? These things matter as much as the other factors.

GoNavy: It was a Chevrolet Malibu. We've added that information to the story.

I think the car make was an update from the original story.

It says pretty clearly that it was a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu.

It was a passenger car according to the Dexter Patch. I can't remember the make. Not sure why that didn't make it into the Annarbor.com version.

Um....the crash is considerably closer to Dexter than it is to Chelsea. Also your map is in the completely wrong place.

Seems to me the headline should say Dexter Township not Chelsea.

Where should the map be? And it's a Chelsea address.

" Speed, alcohol and road conditions appear to be factors in the crash, according to the release." Sad outcome. Prayers out to family and friends of the deceased. well all know "don't drink and drive" but sometimes forget "don't be a passenger to a drunk driver"

Pray for them all Craig, this young man's mother was killed by a drunk driver years ago getting her mail from the end of her driveway. I don't think they forgot, I think they are/were young and thought it would not happen to them. So sad all the way around, there are many young people very upset today all around the community. They could have called anyone of them for a ride, it would have been answered.
