Medical marijuana: Chelsea library hopes panel discussion will clear the air

By Cindy Heflin

Chelsea youth librarian Edith Burney wants to help clear up the confusion surrounding medical marijuana, Michigan Radio reports.

To that end, the Chelsea District Library will host a panel discussion Tuesday focused on the facts and empirical evidence regarding medical marijuana.

The discussion will begin at 7 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington St., Chelsea.

More information about the event is available on the library's website.

What's really interesting here is that Clear the Air was just used by the Schuette administration as the title for their seminars for State Law Enforcement agencies. Seems like they share the same sense of humor regardless of their other opinions. There's now a movement to Repeal Marijuana Prohibition in Michigan. repealtoday.org has information about the effort and how to volunteer to get the issue on the Ballot in 2012.

"The fraud is convincing people that we are better off letting Mexican drug cartels bring the plant into the states." And with legalization of pot, all the bad men will pack up and go away. Dream on........

It isn't possible to clear the air. The law was written intentionally to be full of confusion and contradiction. It was done so because the true intent of the MM law was to make pot use legal under any circumstances without actually expressing its true intent. The "medical" part was a fraud perpetrated on the voters of Michigan. I can't imagine what this panel discussion hopes to accomplish.

The fraud is the current laws outlawing a plant. The fraud is convincing people that we are better off letting Mexican drug cartels bring the plant into the states. It's here, it is always going to be here, people are always going to use it, with little harm to themselves or society. Prohibition don't work, period.

Fraud? I consider it a good start. Pot should have a similar status to alcohol and tobacco. Restricted, regulated, taxed, but legal.
