Starting mid-week, construction will begin on filling in the sidewalk gaps and constructing the elevated boardwalk along the south side of Old US-12 from M-52 to Freer Road in Chelsea.

After receiving a grant from the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation for $225,000, Chelsea, in conjunction with the Washtenaw County Road Commission, plans to fill in a gap along Old US-12 between M-52 and Freer Road near Pierce Lake Golf Course.

According to City Engineer Christine Linfield, during the first couple of weeks of construction, Old US-12 will be down to one lane, and a detour route could be in place as early as Thursday.

The detour will allow westbound traffic through Old US-12, but eastbound traffic will be directed to Interstate 94.

After the first couple of weeks, the detour route will be removed, Linfield said in an email.

The scheduled completion date for this work is the end of July.
