Power should be restored sometime Wednesday evening for about 1,100 customers of DTE Energy in the Chelsea area who have been without it since about 10:30 this morning.

DTE spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said the cause of the outage was not known this afternoon.

Folks: Don't bother asking DTE to reimburse for your lost food (freezer) -- I did and they'll just tell you it's 'an act of nature' and refuse to pay. It's not an 'act of nature' - it's a lack of infrastructure, but DTE doesn't want to talk about that. $3+ million for the CEO and billions in profits. And they didn't pay any taxes for years AND got a $17 million tax refund to boot ! But your losses don't matter to a monopoly - 'sue us'. Maybe someone will take the CEO to small claims court for us.

I don't know how it is now, but several years ago they were the second largest taxpayer in michigan. ( GM was first) They pay taxes on every building, transformer, and breaker on their system.

I understand the frustration, but unless your freezer is really old (eg, crappily insulated), has bad seals, or was opened repeatedly during the day while the power was out, it's doubtful that you lost much other than ice cream and the like. All that frozen stuff in a well-insulated box is going to pretty much preserve itself for a day or two and since the article indicates that the power was only off for about 6 hours, there isn't much to be worried about.

You forgot to include the $83.8 million dollar grant they got to install Smart-Meters . . .which they are also charging YOU for. See http://rochester.patch.com/articles/dte-will-let-customers-say-no-to-smart-meters Of course, that $83.8 million also comes from the taxpayers/ratepayers. Something is very rotten here.
