Vendor taken to hospital after being struck by lightning at Chelsea-area boot camp
One person was struck by lightning at the Cassidy Lake Special Alternative Incarceration Facility Wednesday afternoon as thunderstorms rolled through Washtenaw County.
Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams said one person was struck by lightning while at the boot camp, 18901 Waterloo Road in Lyndon Township, northwest of Chelsea. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the camp at 12:02 p.m.
Officials at Cassidy Lake said the person was a vendor, not a staff member or an inmate. The vendor was taken to the hospital for precautionary purposes, according to the official.
Williams said the person was taken to Chelsea Hospital in stable condition.
The facility is meant for prisoners and probationers as an alternative to prison and has been in operation since 1988. Inmates are usually at the facility for 90 days before being released to probation or a halfway house.

The article does not specify the gender of the person who was injured by lightning. I hope this person has a full recovery.

Obviously it's time to go out and buy a Lotto Ticket... best wishes for a full recovery... Lots of people get hit by a sneak storm, you definitely have to be alert to where not to take shelter... car is safe... rubber tires... i've been struck in a car before... screwed up the car badly.. my Dad had a story during the War (he was in Nashville working design for Consoladateed-Vultee) he was struck out in a watermelon patch and his neighbor too... by rolling lightning... it doesn't have to come down from the sky... but, they both got knocked to the ground, none the worse for wear, luckily... be careful soccer fans, etc... the Lord & Mother Nature rule this time of yr...

A car is safe in a thunderstorm because it's a "Faraday Cage" -- it has zero to do with rubber tires. Think about it - if lightning strokes can span miles through the air what's to prevent them from jumping that six inches from your car frame to the ground?

I believe in people being okay after getting struck by lightning. J. N. of Dexter was struck by lightning in the parking lot of the business he worked for, and he was only 19 or 20 at the time. I expect that a follow-up article will be written about this vendor, after she's interviewed for it.

Well you probably shouldn't "believe in" it to the extent that you continue playing golf in a storm. According to Wikipedia: "Lightning strikes can produce severe injuries, and have a mortality rate of between 10% and 30%, with up to 80% of survivors sustaining long-term injuries."

I don't know what it was like in Chelsea but here in Pittsfield I saw a couple of quick flashes of lightning and them just a couple of low rumbles of thunder. The main reason I stayed inside was because it was pouring rain and only in the low forties. Sounds like the person is going to be ok, I'm hoping for a quick recovery.

Around Cassidy Lake there was severe lightening for about 15-20 minutes.

I wasn't being snarky. I just wondered what a vendor does at a correctional facility. Sheesh.

What were people ...or him, doing outside during a severe lightning storm? I did not work out the mailbox at that time because of the lightning. Helloooooo!
