Chicago man charged in Ann Arbor purse snatching

By Lee Higgins

A Chicago man is accused of attempting to snatch a purse from a woman’s shoulder Sunday night in the 300 block of South State Street, Ann Arbor police said.

Timothy William O’Donnell, 21, is at the Washtenaw County Jail, charged with assault with intent to rob while unarmed, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

O'Donnell is being held on $10,000 bond after being arraigned today, jail officials said.

Police say O’Donnell approached a 21-year-old Ann Arbor woman from behind at about 8:10 p.m. and tugged on her purse, but she refused to let it go. An officer who responded to the area arrested O’Donnell shortly after the incident, police said. The victim suffered some minor cuts, but declined medical treatment, police said.

O’Donnell is scheduled to return to court May 12, jail officials said.
