Climate change rally planned at U-M to push global deal in Copenhagen
There will be a rally on the University of Michigan’s campus on Saturday to call for a global deal at the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Copenhagen later this year.
The rally will begin on U-M’s Diag at 1 p.m. where an aerial photo will be taken of rally-goers spelling out a message to world leaders. The rally participants will then march to Michigan Stadium.
The event is being organized by 350.org, Greenpeace, 1Sky and local students.
New drop-off station hours
Recycle Ann Arbor’s drop-off station is changing its winter hours - and will be closed on Mondays - starting the week of Nov. 2.
The station, located at 2959 E. Ellsworth Road in Ann Arbor, will be open to the public on Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. It accepts recyclable items like paper, metal, glass, batteries and some electronics - among other things. Energy transition conference planned in Chelsea
A conference on reducing local dependence on oil will take place at the Michigan Friends Center, 7748 Clark Lake Road, in Chelsea on Nov. 7.
The event will focus on the “transition towns” movement and on transitioning to a low-energy future.
The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. A lunch made with local foods will be available for $10.
